The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially debunked a fake press release concerning the extension of the registration date for the 2024 Batch “B” online registration service. NYSC further cautioned against the dissemination of false information regarding its operations.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially debunked a fake press release concerning the extension of the registration date for the 2024 Batch “B” online registration service. In an official statement released by NYSC Director of Information, Eddy Megwa, the organization categorically denied the authenticity of the purported press release.

The statement read, “It has come to the notice of NYSC Management of a Press Release purportedly issued by the National Youth Service Corps, conveying plan to extend the registration date in respect of 2024 Batch "B" Orientation programme.

Management hereby states that the said release, signed by one Samad Abdullahi, and unsuspectingly quoted by some bloggers as originating from the Scheme is fake and did not originate from NYSC."

 The release asserted that the NYSC registration portal encountered a technical glitch on June 8th, 2024, which was promptly addressed. Prospective Corps Members were notified of the issue, and registration resumed on the same day. "The NYSC registration portal experienced a glitch on Saturday 8th June, 2024. Prospective Corps Members were immediately notified of the problem in the NYSC portal. When the issue was rectified, registration by Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) continued on the same day", the statement continued. 

However, due to the maximum capacity constraints of the 37 NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide, registration was closed after reaching the required number of Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) for the upcoming batch. “While apologising to the PCMs who could not register for Service before registration was discontinued, Management wishes to assure them that the portal will reopen for 2024 Batch "B" Stream II on a date that will be announced later.", te statement read.

NYSC cautioned against the dissemination of false information regarding its operations. "Criminally-minded individuals who have the penchant of issuing fake press releases on NYSC operations are warned to desist forthwith, as anyone caught will be handed over to the Law enforcement agents for prosecution," the statement warned.

Furthermore, the statement urged online reporters and bloggers to verify the authenticity of information with NYSC before publication, emphasizing the importance of responsible journalism.

This swift rebuttal by NYSC serves to clarify the situation and maintain transparency in its operations, ensuring that prospective Corps Members receive accurate information regarding registration procedures.
