Obafemi Awolowo University has dismissed a viral document circulating online claiming an early resumption date for students, describing it as fake, unauthorized, and maliciously fabricated.

The University management clarified that students are still observing the approved three-week mid-semester break as earlier sanctioned by the University Senate.

This clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju.

According to the statement, the alleged letter did not originate from the Office of the Registrar or any official organ of the University, adding that the signature on the document is forged and has no institutional validity.

The University described the circulation of the fake letter as the handiwork of mischief makers aimed at misleading students and members of the public, as well as creating unnecessary tension within the academic community.

It further stated that the content of the document is false, misleading, and intended to disrupt the peace and orderly academic environment of the institution.

Students, parents, guardians, alumni, staff, and other stakeholders were advised to disregard the information in its entirety and rely only on official communication channels for verified updates from the University.

The management reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, stability, and the welfare of all members of the University community, stressing that official announcements will continue to be disseminated strictly through approved platforms.

The University also urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cautious about the spread of misinformation, particularly on social media platforms where unverified information circulates rapidly.

OAU emphasized that academic activities will continue in line with the approved calendar, and any changes will be communicated through appropriate and legitimate institutional channels.
