OAU Don Elected as Western Africa Representative of Union for African Population Studies

His election took place during the ongoing 9th UAPS conference held in Lilongwe, Malawi, from May 20th to 24th, 2024.

In his new role, Prof. Akinyemi will oversee UAPS activities in West Africa for the next two years. The Union is dedicated to promoting research, capacity building, and policy dialogue in population and development across Africa. As part of this mission, the UAPS Council is inviting contributions from population scientists to propose new thematic areas to further African development.
The 9th UAPS conference saw a significant participation from Nigeria, including staff from OAU who presented several abstracts. The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among population scientists and policymakers from across the continent.
