Obafemi Awolowo University Celebrates Athletes’ Success at 11th FASU Games

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has proudly celebrated the impressive achievements of its athletes at the recently concluded 11th Federation of African University Sports (FASU) Games, held in Lagos across two venues, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Lagos State University (LASU). The event wrapped up with a closing ceremony at LASU on September 29, 2024.

Despite fielding only five athletes in four out of the 17 sports categories offered at the FASU Games, OAU secured an outstanding 9th position on the overall medal table. The athletes brought home a total of six medals, including five golds and one silver, marking a significant achievement for the institution.

The athletes who represented OAU in the games are Ogungbe Peter Oluwadamilare, Akhabue Priscilla Hallelujah, Oluigbo Stacy Ifeyinwa, Oyeyemi Adedoyin, and Olokede Atoyebi Samuel. Their stellar performances in their respective sports categories brought honor to the university, further raising its profile both nationally and internationally.

In a congratulatory message, the university praised the athletes and their coaches for their dedication and success. "Despite the short notice of participation, the coaches did an outstanding job in preparing these athletes, whose accomplishments have now elevated OAU's image on a national and global stage," the statement read.

The university extended heartfelt congratulations to all athletes and coaches involved in the games and expressed optimism about future sporting achievements.
