Obafemi Awolowo University Student Wins NCDMB Oil & Gas Essay Competition

Akande Oyinkansola Josephine, a 16-year-old Medicine and Surgery student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), has won the 2025 Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) Oil & Gas National Undergraduate Essay Competition.

The competition, now in its 9th year, aims to enhance students' understanding of the oil and gas industry and promote local content awareness.

Akande clinched the top prize of ₦1 million and a brand-new laptop at the grand finale held at the Nigerian Content Tower in Yenagoa, outperforming students from various universities across the country. Other winners include Sonuga Sultan Opeyemi from FUTA, who secured second place with ₦700,000 and a laptop, and Aguigwe Precious Amarachi from UNIUYO, who took third place with ₦500,000 and a laptop.

The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, highlighted that the competition inspires excellence, strengthens critical thinking, and prepares undergraduates for the digital economy, aligning with national conversations on energy transition and capacity development. This year's theme focused on sustaining local content policies in the transitioning oil and gas industry.
