OGITECH Commends FG Skills Initiative as TETFund Committee Inspects Engineering Facilities

The management of Ogun State Institute of Technology has praised the Federal Government’s skills development initiative, describing it as a strategic intervention capable of strengthening local innovation, technical manpower development, and Nigeria’s industrial growth.

The commendation came on April 23, 2026, as the institution hosted the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Ministerial Committee on Skills Development and Engineering Workshop Intervention for an inspection visit.

Speaking during the visit, the Rector of the institution, Abiodun Oluseye, said TETFund interventions had significantly transformed the institution’s drive toward integrating academic learning with practical industrial training.

According to him, the institution’s objective is to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world industrial application through hands-on technical education and skill acquisition programmes.

The Rector also disclosed that the institution had received approval to run skill acquisition certification programmes that do not require conventional entry qualifications such as WAEC examinations.

He explained that the initiative, supervised by the National Board for Technical Education, is aimed at formalising the expertise of local artisans and integrating them into the certified technical workforce through government-recognised qualifications.

The visiting delegation was led by the President of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Sodiq Z. Abubakar, who stated that the inspection formed part of the national “One Product, One Polytechnic” engineering workshop initiative.

He said the committee’s mandate includes monitoring the implementation of the 2025 skills development interventions, assessing institutional capacity for specialised engineering production, and reviewing submitted project documents to ensure effective execution.

Other members of the delegation included the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Olawumi Gasper, and Deputy Director at Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Sa’adatu Jimoh, who served as Secretary to the committee.

In his closing remarks, the Deputy Rector of the institution, Oluyemi Odutola, expressed appreciation to the committee and TETFund, describing the institution’s selection as a beneficiary of the intervention as evidence of its growing reputation in vocational and technical education.
