Ogun State Police Arrest Wanted Suspect Olayemi Shedrack for Robberies and Sexual Assaults at Tai Solarin University
A serial rapist, Olayemi Shedrack who was responsible for the robbery and rape of two TASUED female students on the 21st of July has been apprehended by the Nigerian Police in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 33-year-old man, Olayemi Shedrack, who has been on its wanted list for his involvement in a series of robberies and sexual assaults at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun.
According to a statement released by the Command's Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, Shedrack was apprehended following a tip-off from members of the public. He was arrested while attempting to blend in with the crowd in Ijagun.
"Acting on a tip-off, Olayemi Olawale Shedrack, aged 33, was spotted in Ijagun attempting to blend in with the crowd, but his true identity was verified through intelligence sources. The police were promptly informed, and he was arrested," Odutola said.
Shedrack is alleged to have been involved in an incident that took place on July 21, 2024, where he and his accomplices unlawfully entered the female accommodation area at Royal Villa, Tai Solarin University. They reportedly robbed the female students of valuable items, including laptops, iPhones, sports watches, and cash. In addition to the robbery, Shedrack and his gang allegedly sexually assaulted some of the students before fleeing the scene.
A preliminary investigation has been launched, and the suspect has been transferred to the Igbeba Police Station, Ijebu-Ode, for interrogation. Odutola assured that the suspect would soon be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, has been briefed on the arrest and has ordered the immediate apprehension of Shedrack’s accomplices. He also appealed to residents of Ijagun to provide credible information to assist the police in tracking down the remaining suspects.
