Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi, the outgoing Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, held a valedictory press conference where he highlighted achievements during his tenure, emphasizing improvements in academic performance and staff qualifications.

The outgoing Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi, expressed satisfaction with the transformation achieved during his tenure, stating that he leaves the institution in a significantly improved state compared to when he assumed office in 2019.

During a valedictory press conference held in Ibadan, Adebiyi highlighted notable achievements, including remarkable advancements in students' academic performance and a significant increase in staff members obtaining PhD qualifications, with over 80% now holding doctorate degrees in their respective fields.

Adebiyi attributed the harmonious relationship between staff and management to the absence of major industrial strikes during his tenure. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with security agencies in curbing violence, indecent dressing, and cultism within the institution.

One notable reform implemented under his leadership was the introduction of an automated online platform for Student Union Government (SUG) elections, which significantly reduced violence previously associated with such activities.

In addition to enhancing security and academic standards, the outgoing management team established a new faculty and department to create a conducive learning environment for students.

Addressing a call by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Ibadan Poly chapter, to appoint a Chief Lecturer as the next Rector instead of a Professor from a university, Adebiyi expressed support for the directive issued by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the institution's regulatory body. He clarified that the Governing Council had approved the directive, underscoring the importance of adhering to regulatory guidelines.

Adebiyi affirmed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition for his successor, creating an enabling environment for continued progress and success. He expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde, staff, and students for their unwavering support throughout his tenure, spanning five years.
