The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) welcomed a delegation from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Abuja, on 16 December 2025, at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building.

The delegation was received on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor by Professor Babagana Bako, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Central Administration.

Professor Bako described the visit as both timely and strategic, emphasizing the importance of structured collaboration for capacity building between UNIMAID and PenCom. He highlighted plans to engage the University Business School in the potential introduction of diploma programmes in pension administration and regulation, with prospects of expanding into full undergraduate degree programmes in the future. He noted that such initiatives would broaden career opportunities for students while enhancing professional standards within the pension sector.

Speaking during the meeting, Nurudeen Garba, leader of the PenCom delegation, expressed appreciation for the university’s readiness to collaborate. He explained that the University of Maiduguri was intentionally selected as PenCom’s partner in the Northeast to promote knowledge exchange and strengthen institutional capacity in the region. Garba also encouraged the university to integrate pension-related courses into its curriculum, enabling students to gain practical insights into pension regulations and administration.
