Poly Students Give NUC 7-Day Ultimatum to Withdraw Opposing Statement on HND/BSc Dichotomy
NAPS stressed that if the NUC fails to withdraw its statement within the specified timeframe, they will take measures to publicly protest at the NUC national headquarters.
The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has issued a 7-day ultimatum to the National University Commission (NUC) to withdraw its opposition to the one-year top-up program for Higher National Diploma (HND) holders, proposed by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
NAPS stressed that if the NUC fails to withdraw its statement within the specified timeframe, they will take measures to publicly protest at the NUC national headquarters.

Salahudeen Lukman, the former NAPS Senate President, mentioned that NUC should operate within its constitutional mandate and not hinder the progress of polytechnic students and graduates. He stated, "They should not intervene in the TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) in polytechnic; they have no business. If they cannot respect themselves by facing what concerns them and leave our sector alone, we will not hesitate to come and embarrass them and let them know their limits."

Additionally, NAPS called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the bill abolishing the HND/BSc dichotomy into law. This move is seen as an effort to put an end to discrimination against polytechnic graduates in Nigeria.

The newly elected NAPS president, Comrade Rilwan Munirudeen, appealed to Tinubu to consider the bill, which was passed by the Ninth National Assembly but not signed by the former President Muhammadu.
