ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike at Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike at Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi, starting at 12:00 PM on November 29, 2024.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced an indefinite strike at Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) in Bauchi State. This action, which commenced at 12:00 PM on Friday, November 29, 2024, follows the union's ongoing struggle to address concerns over the university’s management and other pressing issues.
The decision was made after a critical emergency congress held in Yuli, where ASUU’s SAZU chapter unanimously agreed that all available channels for resolution had been exhausted without success. Hussain Nuhu, the chairperson of the ASUU SAZU branch, revealed that repeated efforts to engage the university authorities and resolve the issues had been met with no response.
During the congress, a motion was moved and seconded to initiate a comprehensive and indefinite strike action. The strike is expected to halt all academic activities and meetings at the university, as ASUU members have been directed to comply with the strike order.
“This strike action is a last resort after all attempts to ensure proper management services and meet the demands of the union have failed,” Nuhu stated. He emphasized that no academic work will proceed at the institution until further notice.
The indefinite strike by ASUU at SAZU adds to the growing list of industrial actions affecting Nigerian universities as the union seeks better working conditions and management practices across the country.
