Principal and Vice Principal Arrested for Beating Student to De@th in Zaria

In a tragic incident, the Principal and Vice Principal of Al-Azhar School in Zaria, Kaduna State, have been arrested and detained by the Kaduna Police Command after a JSS3 student, Marwanu Nuhu Sambo, died following severe physical punishment.

The student, Sambo, was allegedly subjected to intense physical abuse by the school's Principal, Vice Principal, and prefects after being found missing from school.

As reported by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Mansir Hassan, the police are aware of the incident, and a full-scale investigation into the matter is underway to uncover the root cause of the incident.

According to eyewitness accounts, Sambo was brought before an assembly where the Principal ordered him to receive 105 strokes of the cane. Following this, he was taken to the office, where he was brutally beaten with sticks on his head, back, and body. The Principal then handed him over to school prefects who continued the assault with sticks, causing one of the boy's teeth to fall out. This ultimately led to Sambo falling into a coma.

Rather than seeking immediate medical attention, the school prefects left the boy's body near the male toilets on the school premises until closing. The cries of other students, who watched in horror, finally alerted teachers to the scene. When they arrived, it was discovered that Sambo had tragically passed away.

The deceased student was then taken to a private hospital in Zaria, where he was pronounced dead.The school has disassociated itself from the horrendous incident, stating that the punishment administered was not part of its policy, and the individuals responsible for it acted without proper consultation.

In response to this tragedy, the school suspended the officers involved and handed them over to the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation. The school has also closed its academic activities until further notice.
