Prof. Hajara Umar Sanda Becomes First Female Professor of Mass Communication at BUK

In a historic achievement for Northern Nigerian academia, Prof. Hajara Umar Sanda has emerged as the first woman to attain the rank of Professor in the Department of Mass Communication at Bayero University Kano (BUK). 

Her promotion marks a significant breakthrough for gender representation in one of the university’s most prominent departments, breaking a long-standing barrier and setting a new precedent for female scholars in the field of communication.

Prof. Sanda’s academic journey is deeply rooted in the institution she now leads as a senior faculty member. She is a proud alumna of Bayero University Kano, having earned her entire suite of degrees from the institution: 

B.A., M.A., and PhD: All obtained in Mass Communication from BUK.

Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE): Further enhancing her pedagogical expertise.
