Prof. Kolade Luke Ayorinde, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, recently praised the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for his exceptional work ethic and commitment to the university’s success. This acknowledgment came during a retirement celebration held at Ayorinde’s home, marking his retirement after 37 years of dedicated service to the institution.

Reflecting on his extensive career, Ayorinde shared his gratitude for the numerous opportunities he received while serving at the University since joining as a Lecturer II in May 1987. He quickly ascended through the ranks to become a Professor by 1995, crediting the university’s administration for supporting his academic pursuits, including fellowships and sabbaticals.

During the celebration, Ayorinde noted, “Prof. Egbewole’s dedication to our institution can be traced back many years. He has always been a hardworking individual, particularly during our time on the Business Committee of Senate (BCOS), where he consistently took on responsibilities that others might avoid.”

He also emphasized the importance of collaboration among the University Student Union and the management team, urging student leaders to regard the university as their home. Ayorinde warned that a lack of cooperation could lead to difficulties, while unity could yield significant benefits for the entire university community.

In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Egbewole recognized Ayorinde’s substantial contributions as both a distinguished academic and a first-class administrator. He recalled their collaborative efforts at BCOS, noting Ayorinde’s meticulous approach that contributed to the effective functioning of their meetings. Egbewole stated, “Prof. Ayorinde’s resilience and willingness to support others have been instrumental in our shared successes.”

The celebration was attended by several members of Egbewole’s management team, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services) Prof. Suleiman Folorunsho Ambali, University Librarian Dr. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, Ag. Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Alex Morenikeji Akanmu, and the President of the Student Union, Comrade Victor Oghenetega Agezeh, among others.

As Prof. Ayorinde embarks on his retirement, the University community reflects on his legacy of dedication and excellence, while looking forward to continued progress under the leadership of Prof. Egbewole.
