Prof. M.G. Mahuta Appointed Acting Vice Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto
He earned his B.A. Ed. in Islamic Studies from the University of Sokoto and both his M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Sociology of Education from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Prof. Muhammad Garba Mahuta has been appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. This announcement comes as Prof. Mahuta, a distinguished academic with extensive experience in the field of education, steps into this pivotal role.
Born on January 1, 1964, in Mahuta, Fakai Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Prof. Mahuta holds a Grade II Teachers’ Certificate from Government Teachers’ College, Zuru. He earned his B.A. Ed. in Islamic Studies from the University of Sokoto and both his M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Sociology of Education from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
With over 35 years of teaching and research experience, Prof. Mahuta is a Professor of Sociology of Education in the Department of Educational Foundations at Usmanu Danfodiyo University. He has published over 50 articles in academic journals, focusing on various aspects of Sociology of Education, including gender issues, nomadic education, and teacher education.
He has authored two textbooks, “An Introduction to Sociological Foundation of Education” (2007) and “An Introduction to the Teaching Profession for Teacher-Trainees” (2009). Additionally, he contributed to the development of Nomadic Education textbooks and has been actively involved in seminars and workshops organized by the National Commission for Nomadic Education.

Prof. Mahuta has received several accolades, including the National Universities Commission’s Nigerian Universities Doctoral Thesis Award in 2002 and the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Postgraduate Award for the most outstanding research work at the Ph.D. level.
His appointment marks a significant milestone for the university, as Prof. Mahuta brings a wealth of knowledge and a strong commitment to advancing the institution’s educational goals.
