Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU), on Saturday, December 7, 2024, witnessed the grand finale of its 4th Vice-Chancellor's Cup, with Young Argentina FC of Hayin Dogo emerging victorious over Boys United FC of Samaru in a closely contested 1-0 match.  

The colorful event drew football lovers from Zaria and beyond, filling the stadium to capacity. Supporters of both teams cheered passionately as dignitaries, including ABU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala, graced the occasion.

Prof. Bala praised the tournament organizers, describing the event as part of the university's commitment to fostering town-gown relations and promoting community engagement through sports.  

The competition featured 20 teams divided into four groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarterfinals, then to the semifinals, and finally the final. Awards were presented for individual categories, including Highest Goal Scorer, Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper, and Best Coach.

For the first time, the tournament attracted a Nigerian Professional Football League Match Assessor, enhancing its profile as a premier grassroots football event in Zaria.  

The success of the tournament was attributed to the dedication of the Local Organizing Committee and the unwavering support of the Vice-Chancellor. Football enthusiasts are already looking forward to the 5th edition of this sensational sporting showcase in 2025.
