Professor Sarki Abba, a renowned medical expert, has an extraordinary story of academic excellence and perseverance. In 1984, at just 16 years old, he achieved a remarkable feat by scoring 9 distinctions (8 A1s and 1 A2) in the WASC exams, now known as WAEC.
However, his exceptional results were met with skepticism by the exam authorities, who doubted his abilities and accused him of cheating.
To prove his innocence, Sarki Abba was asked to retake the 9 subjects in just 3 days under strict supervision. He not only passed but improved his results, scoring 9 A1s. This remarkable achievement led to the establishment of the National Merit Award, with Sarki Abba becoming its first recipient.
Sarki Abba's academic prowess continued to shine, and he graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, as the Best Medical Student and Overall Best Graduating Student at the age of 21. Today, he is a globally recognized expert in medicine, holding prestigious positions, including: Professor of Urology & Pathology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, USA, Professor of Urological Research, Co-Director, Cancer Global Health, at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center
