Review of career structure for ABU Staff School teachers nearing completion, Vice-Chancellor

Speaking at the School’s 33rd Annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day, the Vice-Chancellor explained that this would boost teachers’ morale in teaching the pupils.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Director, Division of Agricultural Colleges, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Musa Abdullahi Mahadi, commended the staff and management of the school for their efforts in ensuring that it lives up to expectation.

Prof. Bala assured the school of ABU Management’s continued support within the limit of available resources, urging, however, that the school alumni, parents, and other stakeholders should come to the aid of the school as funding by government was grossly inadequate.

“This is necessary, if the school is to improve upon its current achievements. I am confident that if all the stakeholders would come together, a lot would be achieved in taking the school to greater heights in order to keep producing exceptional pupils who would eventually be the leaders of tomorrow”, he said.

The Vice-Chancellor described the occasion as memorable, as it was an opportunity to examine the historical development of the school and its achievements in line with aims and objectives of its establishment in 1958.

He noted that the school had over the years grown to become one of the best primary schools in the country, and produced eminent professors and personalities who had been contributing to human development nationally and internationally.

“The products of ABU Staff School can be found in many public and private institutions in the country and beyond, including the diaspora holding important positions.

“Among these are Prof. Jibrin Adogba who was the initiator or founder of the Computer Laboratory in the school; and Mr. Masai Orji, a sportsman based in the US, who constructed and equipped a basketball pitch used by the pupils”, the Vice-Chancellor also said.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated all the graduating pupils and urged them to be good ambassadors of the school  and the University wherever they were.

The Chairman, Management Board for ABU Staff School, Prof. Yahaya Korau Kajuru, acknowledged what he described as the “positive contribution” by the Vice-Chancellor towards the development of the school.

Prof. Kajuru also expressed gratitude to the University Governing Council for approving the review of the new career structure of the school, which he said would ultimately boost the teachers productivity.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Headmaster, ABU Staff School, Malam Umar Bala, explained that this year’s speech and prize-giving day was a combined occasion for all the out-gone pupils of the years 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

He fingered shortage of staff, construction of assembly halls, rehabilitation and fencing of the Main Campus sports field, as well as conversion of two-blocks of classes at Kongo to storey buildings in order to decongest the classes, as some of the major challenges of the school at present.
