Rivers State Governor Fubara Directs Immediate Promotion of Senior Secondary School Teachers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the immediate promotion of teachers in senior secondary schools across the state. The directive was issued during the inauguration of the new Chairmen and members for the Senior Secondary Schools Board and the Universal Basic Education Board at the government house on Friday.

Governor Fubara explained that the previous promotion exercise was suspended due to concerns about the competence of the Acting Director who handled it. The promotion process will now be overseen by the newly appointed substantive board led by Dr. Sam Umejuru, an experienced educationist.

The Governor emphasized his commitment to enhancing education, healthcare, and agriculture, which will be prioritized in the 2025 budget. He also called on the new Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board, David Briggs, to build on the standards set by his predecessor and to diligently execute his role in laying a strong educational foundation for the state’s children.

Dr. Sam Emejuru, the new Chairman of the Senior Secondary Schools Board, thanked the Governor and assured him of their commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities with diligence and fairness. Similarly, David Briggs, Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board, pledged unwavering dedication to achieving the Governor’s educational vision for Rivers State.

The new board members include:

- Senior Secondary Schools Board: Dr. Sam Emejuru (Chairman), Francis Jacob, Dr. Grace Jaja, Jemina Margaret Briggs, and Love Aguma.

- Universal Basic Education Board: Dr. David Theophilus Briggs (Chairman), Nwuke Anucha, Dr. Alom Anyanya Austin-Mba, Dr. Walson Ominini, and Ibiere Pepple (Secretary).
