Rivers State University Enforces Mandatory ID Card Policy

In a decisive move to strengthen campus security, Rivers State University (RSU) has announced the full enforcement of its identity card policy for all staff and students, effective Monday, March 9, 2026.

The directive, contained in an internal memorandum signed by Engr. Prof. A. H. Igoni, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Enforcement of the Use of Identity Cards, follows an earlier notice issued by the Acting Registrar, Dr. Idanyingi I. Daminabo, in February.

Under the new policy, the university will operate a strict “No Identity Card, No Entry” rule across both main and satellite campuses. A one-week grace period has been granted for the university community to obtain and display their ID cards. From the effective date:

  • All staff and students must wear their ID cards visibly at all times on campus.
  • Security personnel are authorized to escort individuals without ID cards off campus.
  • Lecturers are required to deny access to lecture halls for students without ID cards.
  • Spot checks will be conducted in lecture halls, offices, and other campus facilities to ensure compliance.
  • Visitors and non-staff members must clearly identify themselves and state their purpose on campus.

The university has urged members of the community who have not yet collected their ID cards to visit the Information and Communication Technology Centre (ICTC) immediately, assuring that processing and collection will take no more than three working days.

Management called for full cooperation, warning that failure to adhere to the policy will attract the full disciplinary measures under the university’s regulations.
