A security assessment team led by DSP Adamu Muhammad, appointed by the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, visited Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano (YUMSUK) on Wednesday morning.

The visit was part of a broader mission to assess the vulnerabilities of security across all state-owned tertiary institutions.

During the visit, DSP Adamu Muhammad and his team were warmly received by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, in his office. The team’s primary task was to evaluate the university's physical security, cybersecurity, and safety protocols. DSP Adamu emphasized that to create a comprehensive report for the state government, the team plans to interact with key stakeholders, including the university’s Security Directorate, Student Affairs Division, and the Students’ Union.

Professor Kurawa, who was recently awarded the title of "Best Security Conscious Vice Chancellor in Nigerian Universities 2023/2024" by the International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS), expressed his support for the initiative. He was also granted Fellowship by the same institute, in recognition of his proactive efforts in securing the university’s campuses. Professor Kurawa added that the diverse population in tertiary institutions requires robust security strategies to ensure a peaceful and conducive learning environment. He expressed confidence that the team’s assessment would enhance YUMSUK’s existing security framework.
