The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Hon. Justice Josiah Majebi, has praised the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, for his visionary leadership, especially for spearheading the establishment of the Faculty of Law at the university. Justice Majebi made these remarks during a visit to the institution on 3rd October 2024, where he led a delegation of High Court judges from the state to show support for the new programme.

Justice Majebi commended Prof. Akinwumi for his humility and the notable developments that have transformed FUL under his leadership, describing him as a selfless and bold leader. He specifically acknowledged the efforts made by the Vice-Chancellor to ensure the creation of the Law Faculty during his tenure as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of the University, noting that the new programme would significantly contribute to the advancement of legal education in Kogi State and Nigeria at large.

The Chief Judge also expressed his gratitude to the entire University Management for their cooperation and support in bringing the Vice-Chancellor’s vision to life. He emphasized the importance of having at least one lawyer in every family and highlighted the numerous opportunities and respect the legal profession commands. He assured the University of his continued support and promised to establish a technical committee to offer professional advice for the Law Faculty. Additionally, Justice Majebi pledged to mobilize judges to donate books to meet the Council of Legal Education (CLE) requirements.

In his response, Vice-Chancellor Professor Olayemi Akinwumi thanked Justice Majebi and the judges for their visit and ongoing support. He reiterated his commitment to making FUL’s Faculty of Law one of the best in the North Central region, and outlined some of the efforts already undertaken to gain CLE approval. The Vice-Chancellor also called on the Chief Judge for further assistance in addressing outstanding challenges.
