Senate Initiates Probe into Alleged Admission Racketeering in Universities

The Senate has decided to investigate allegations of admission racketeering in Nigerian universities following a motion titled "Urgent Need to Curtail the Practice of Undisclosed Admissions and Other Unwholesome Practices by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)." Senator Onyeka Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North, raised concerns about unscrupulous university staff collaborating with JAMB officials in trading admissions, particularly in courses like Medicine, Surgery, Pharmacy, Law, Engineering, and Nursing Science.

The probe aims to address these allegations and ensure fairness in the admission process. The Senate has assigned its Committees on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, as well as Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions to investigate the claims.
