Six LASUED Students Awarded ASUU Scholarships
Six indigent students from Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) have received scholarships from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at both the national and branch levels.
In a significant initiative to promote education, six deserving indigent students from the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Ijanikin, have been awarded scholarships by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The scholarships were granted at both the national and branch levels of LASUED, following the union's commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).
According to Ige Ajayi, the chairman of the scholarship screening committee, 29 students applied for the scholarship, submitting both online applications and completed hard copies to the ASUU-LASUED secretariat. After a thorough selection process, nine students were shortlisted for interviews, ultimately leading to the selection of six recipients.
The scholarship distribution included two students receiving N200,000 each from the ASUU national body, while the remaining four students were awarded N100,000 each from the ASUU-LASUED branch.

Comrade Akolade Lapite, the branch chairman of ASUU-LASUED, expressed that the scholarship awards are part of the union's unwavering dedication to empower indigent students facing financial challenges. He emphasized that these scholarships are not merely financial assistance but represent a vital investment in the future leaders of the nation, nurturing talent irrespective of socio-economic background.
“The scholarships awarded are a testament to the transformative power of education and the pivotal role that ASUU plays in shaping the future of our society,” Lapite stated.
One of the scholarship recipients, Amusan Iseoluwa, a student of Primary Education Studies with a CGPA of 3.80, remarked, “This award reflects my dedication and commitment to academic excellence. I am proud to be part of this prestigious institution and hope our achievements inspire future scholars.”
Amusan, hailing from Ibadan in Oyo State, plans to use the scholarship funds to cover her tuition fees. Another recipient, Ajetunmobi Odunayo Oluwakemisola from the Department of Physics, expressed her gratitude to ASUU, noting that the scholarship dispels negative perceptions about the union, particularly concerning its involvement in strikes.
“This scholarship is a great opportunity for me and others who may have a skewed view of ASUU. I extend my heartfelt thanks to ASUU national and the ASUU-LASUED chapter for this support,” she shared.
The initiative underscores ASUU’s commitment to advocating for quality education and supporting the welfare of students and academic staff alike, as they continue to strive towards a more equitable and inclusive educational landscape in Nigeria.
