In recognition of World Environment Day 2024, Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) joins the global community in addressing the urgent need for environmental protection amid the escalating impacts of climate change.

This year’s theme, "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience," encapsulates the critical challenges faced by communities worldwide, urging collective action under the slogan "Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration."

The institution highlighted pressing need for proactive measures to mitigate climate change. "Our environment needs to be protected by us more than ever before," Ibrahim wrote, emphasizing the widespread disruptions caused by climate change, including wars triggered by drought in countries like Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Somalia, and devastating floods in parts of Asia.

Skyline University Nigeria has been at the forefront of promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. The university's initiatives, including guest lecture series and innovative student competitions, aim to foster a deeper understanding of environmental issues and encourage practical solutions. Last year, SUN's "greenathon" session engaged secondary school students in presenting start-up ideas to address environmental crises, an event that was well-received by the local community.

"Environmental challenges can be curbed drastically with collective efforts," Ibrahim noted, underscoring the importance of grassroots and global collaboration in combating environmental degradation. Nigeria, facing significant climate change impacts such as deforestation, waste pollution, and illegal mining, stands to benefit from such initiatives.
