SLU Vice-Chancellor Inaugurates Committee for Establishment of Faculty of Medicine

The Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University (SLU) Kafin, Hausa, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai, inaugurated a committee tasked with establishing the university's proposed Faculty of Medicine.

The Vice-Chancellor of Sule Lamido University (SLU) Kafin, Hausa, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai, inaugurated a committee tasked with establishing the university's proposed Faculty of Medicine. The event marks a significant step towards expanding the university's academic offerings and enhancing medical education within Jigawa State.

During the inauguration, Professor Yakasai congratulated the committee members on their appointments, emphasizing the university's readiness to establish the Faculty of Medicine. He highlighted the initiative as part of the State Government’s commitment to providing high-quality educational programs for its indigenes and promoting academic excellence. The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the construction of the Faculty Building, funded by the Jigawa State Government, is already underway. Additionally, basic medical science departments have been constructed and are awaiting furnishing.

In his remarks, Professor Dauda Muhammad Maigatari, Chairman of the Committee and Director of the University Health Services Directorate at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, praised the Jigawa State Government's foresight and SLU's initiative. He assured that the committee would work diligently to establish the Faculty of Medicine.

The committee's Terms of Reference include drafting a blueprint for the Faculty’s establishment in compliance with guidelines from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). They are also expected to provide professional advice and guidance on the faculty’s development.
