SSANU and NASU Threaten Protest Over FG's Payment of ASUU Salaries
The JAC warned that if the government proceeds with this exclusion policy, they cannot guarantee the peaceful atmosphere in universities and inter-university centers, and they should not be held liable for any disruption in the academic calendar.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have issued a warning to the Federal Government regarding the recent decision to pay the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) their withheld salaries while excluding other university-based unions.
In a letter addressed to the Chief of Staff to the President, Honourable Femi Gbajiabiamila, the General Secretary of NASU, Prince Peters Adeyemi, and the President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, expressed their concerns over the government's directive to release four months' salaries to ASUU members only, excluding other staff belonging to unions such as SSANU, NASU, and NAAT.

The letter highlighted the history of strikes and agreements between the unions and the government, emphasizing the unfair treatment faced by non-teaching staff during previous disputes. Despite assurances from government officials, including the Minister of Education, regarding equal treatment for all university sector unions, the recent decision to exclude non-teaching staff from salary payments has caused dissatisfaction among SSANU and NASU members.
The JAC warned that if the government proceeds with this exclusion policy, they cannot guarantee the peaceful atmosphere in universities and inter-university centers, and they should not be held liable for any disruption in the academic calendar.
