Sule Lamido University to Host International Conference on Corruption Dynamics and Public Sector Vitality

The Faculty of Social and Management Sciences at Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, is set to host an international conference on the theme, "Dynamics of Corruption in Nigeria and the Imperative for a Virile Public Sector." The conference will be held from 12th to 14th November 2024, in a hybrid format, accommodating both physical and virtual participation.

The conference aims to explore various aspects of corruption in Nigeria and the broader implications for public sector reforms and development. It is structured into five main tracks:

1. **Corruption in Nigeria: Patterns and Trends**
   - Perspectives on corruption and public sector reforms
   - Nature and dynamics of corruption in the public service
   - The role of ICPC and EFCC in the fight against corruption
   - Anti-graft war: issues, challenges, and prospects

   - Corruption and Nigeria's judicial system
   - The role of NGOs in the fight against corruption
   - Islamic principles and the fight against corruption

3. **Corruption and Insecurity**
   - Youth restiveness, oil theft, and development challenges in the Niger Delta
   - Corruption and the farmers-herders conflict
   - Security agencies, arms procurement, and corruption
   - Bad governance, insecurity, and arms proliferation


4. **Corruption and Sustainable Economic Development**
   - Impact of corruption on economic growth
   - The fight against poverty and corruption in Third World countries
   - Corruption and fiscal policy implementation
   - Small-scale business development and corruption
   - Effect of corruption on investment and service delivery
   - Public sector accounting, leakages, and the Treasury Single Account
   - Effects of corruption on private sector performance

5. **Corruption and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)**
   - Corruption and sustainable food security
   - The role of ICT in the fight against corruption
   - Role of gender in the fight against corruption
   - The role of media in the fight against corruption and a virile public sector.

The keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). The lead paper will be presented by Prof. Sadiq Isah Radda from the Department of Sociology, Bayero University, Kano.

Interested participants can submit their abstracts by 30th October 2024. The conference fee is N35,000 for local physical participants, N25,000 for virtual presenters, and USD100 for international participants. Special rates are available for students with valid ID cards: N20,000 for postgraduate students and N10,000 for undergraduate students.
