Faculty of Law Wins Elizade University 2026 Inter-Faculty Debate and Public Speaking Competition
The Faculty of Law, Elizade University, has emerged overall winner of the institution’s 2026 Annual Inter-Faculty Debate and Public Speaking Competition, reaffirming the faculty’s tradition of academic excellence.
Held on May 15, 2026, the competition, themed _“Beyond the Screen: The Future of University Learning,”_ brought together students from across the university’s faculties in a display of reasoning, eloquence, and analytical depth.
Declaring the event open, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Philip Oguntunde, said the competition reflects the university’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic student development. He noted that it underscores the institution’s dedication to nurturing critical thinking, leadership, and effective communication among students.

Also in attendance were the University Bursar, the Dean of Student Affairs, faculty representatives, and other members of the university community.
The highlight of the event was the Parliamentary Debate segment, where participants debated the motion: _“This House Believes That Universities Should Intentionally Reduce Reliance on Digital Learning Platforms Even at the Cost of Convenience and Efficiency.”_
At the end of the keenly contested debate, the Faculty of Law, represented by Bayo Aina Janet and Olorunfemi Akinduyile, emerged winners following what the judges described as an outstanding and intellectually superior performance.
The Faculty of Basic and Allied Sciences, represented by Mariam Florence and Akinyera Mercy, finished second, while the Faculty of Humanities and Social Management Sciences, represented by Adekoya-Benson Tise and Agorile Mofiyinfoluwa, came third. The Faculty of Engineering, represented by Olufemi David Rotimi and Ojapinwa Victor, placed fourth.
In the Public Speaking segment, Ayomipe Treasure of the Faculty of Law emerged overall winner with 75 percent. Akinfiresoye Isreal of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Management Sciences scored 67.8 points to place second, while Adewale Oluwadarasimi of the Faculty of Basic and Allied Sciences came third with 59.1 points. Baiyeshea Ifedola of the Faculty of Engineering finished fourth with 57.3 points.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Modupe Abolade, described the competition as highly impactful, noting that it provided students with a valuable platform to sharpen their public speaking skills and strengthen inter-faculty relationships.
In his remarks, the Head of Department, International Relations, Dr. Tunde Fajimbola, described the debate topic as one of global relevance, adding that digital learning remains central to the future of education.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Coordinator of the Debate and Public Speaking Society, Adeola Joshua, who appreciated the university management for its support and commended participants for making the 2026 edition a success. He reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to sustaining a culture of excellence and leadership development within the university.
