FUGA VC Seeks Religious Leaders' Support For FUGA Green Code

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Gashua, Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, has called on religious institutions to play a leading role in advancing the University's FUGA Green Code, FGC, describing faith-based organisations as critical partners in promoting environmental sustainability.

Geidam made the call when he received members of the University's Central Mosque Committee on a courtesy visit to his office in Gashua, where he stressed that the success of the Green Code Initiative depends on the active participation of all stakeholders, including religious bodies.

The Vice-Chancellor urged the committee to use its platform to encourage tree planting, environmental cleanliness, and the responsible management of natural resources, noting that these values are consistent with Islamic teachings on the stewardship of the earth and with the University's commitment to building an environmentally sustainable campus.

He said religious leaders occupy strategic positions in society and should leverage their influence to educate worshippers on environmental conservation and climate action, adding that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Central Mosque Committee, who is also the Bursar of the University, Mallam Muhammad Ahmed Ali, said the visit was intended to formally congratulate the Vice-Chancellor on his appointment, and pledged the committee's support for initiatives aimed at advancing the University's development.

On behalf of the committee, he also briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the activities of the Mosque Committee and appealed for continued institutional support to enhance its operations.
