In the aftermath of a devastating lightning strike that claimed the lives of three students at Tansi International College in Awka, Anambra, the school administration has initiated comprehensive post-trauma counseling sessions for the affected students. Reverend Father Fidelis Izuako, the Principal of the college, revealed this during a condolence visit by the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter.

The lightning struck the school's football pitch on November 4, catching nine students off guard while playing in the rain. Unfortunately, three lost their lives in the tragic incident. Speaking about the impact on the school community, Rev. Fr. Izuako expressed how the incident had left an indelible scar on the lives of the students.

"We are having general post-trauma counseling for the students because immediately that incident happened, they became afraid, especially the classmates of the victims," he stated. "They are afraid to sleep in their bunks and they are living in clusters because the trauma was much on them."

To address these fears and provide support, the school has enlisted the help of psychologists who are actively engaging with the students, helping them overcome the shock and fears associated with the incident.

Revealing a positive development, Rev. Fr. Izuako shared, "The six students who survived the strike have fully recovered and are currently with their parents to enable them to regain full confidence and become completely reintegrated." He further emphasized that upon their return to school, the survivors would undergo personal counseling sessions.

The school's commitment to healing and support has garnered praise from Chimezie Anaso, Chairman of Anambra SWAN, who led the delegation in offering condolences. Anaso commended the college for its dedication and contributions to sports development, urging them not to let the unfortunate incident discourage them from engaging in sports activities.
