ANAMBRA: Nnewi Vigilance Service Nets 30 Suspected Internet Fraudsters and Kidnappers in Operation Sweep

Amidst rising criminal activities, operatives of the Nnewi Vigilance Service have successfully apprehended 30 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud and kidnapping. The arrests were made during a targeted raid conducted at two buildings in the Obiofia area of Nnewichi-Nnewi, known as "Operation Sweep."

The operation aligns with the Vigilante policy aimed at maintaining the security of Nnewi by eradicating threats such as kidnappings, armed robberies, cybercrimes (commonly referred to as "Yahoo Yahoo"), exploitation of young girls, and various other criminal activities.

During the raid, the vigilance team not only detained the suspected internet fraudsters and kidnappers but also rescued young girls allegedly being exploited in the criminal activities. Among the seized items were charms, mobile phones, and dozens of SIM cards, indicative of the suspects' involvement in illicit operations.

Maintaining anonymity, a commander of the Nnewi Vigilance Service disclosed that the apprehended individuals have been handed over to the police for further investigation and eventual prosecution. The sealed facilities housing the suspects are now under the scrutiny of the Vigilante Group, as they conduct additional investigations to uncover any further details related to the criminal activities.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, assured that the police have taken custody of the suspects, initiating a thorough interrogation process. He stated, "The Command has received the suspects, and interrogation has commenced."

This successful operation underscores the collaborative efforts between local vigilante groups and law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety and security of the community. Authorities remain committed to upholding the rule of law and bringing perpetrators of criminal acts to justice.
