FUNAAB Reaffirms Readiness to Host Teach For Nigeria Fellowship Programme

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Babatunde Kehinde, has reaffirmed the university's commitment to providing an enhanced experience for participants of the Teach For Nigeria (TFN) Fellowship Programme, assuring organisers of improved welfare, security and facilities ahead of this year's exercise.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Babatunde Kehinde, has reaffirmed the university's commitment to providing an enhanced experience for participants of the Teach For Nigeria (TFN) Fellowship Programme, assuring organisers of improved welfare, security and facilities ahead of this year's exercise.

Professor Kehinde gave the assurance on Monday, 13 July 2026, while receiving a delegation from Teach For Nigeria during a courtesy visit to his office.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the university's Planning Committee, chaired by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Festus Adeosun, began preparations early by building on lessons learnt from last year's programme.

He added that the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Olusegun Idowu, has been assigned to monitor the committee's activities, while he will personally supervise the entire preparation process.

According to him, the committee comprises experienced members from the previous exercise alongside newly appointed members to ensure continuity and improved service delivery.

Professor Kehinde revealed that renovation and upgrading of hostel facilities are already in progress. He also disclosed that a Welfare Sub-Committee, chaired by the Dean of the College of Biosciences (COLBIOS), Professor Iyabode Kehinde, has been constituted to coordinate the welfare of the fellows throughout their stay.

Highlighting recent improvements, the Vice-Chancellor said the university now enjoys almost 24-hour electricity through its solar power plant. He added that the ongoing hostel renovation would also ensure uninterrupted water supply, including to the upper floors of the hostels.

On campus security, Professor Kehinde disclosed that the university has strengthened collaboration with:

  • Harmony Police Division
  • Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)

He noted that armed security personnel have been strategically deployed across the campus to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.

The Vice-Chancellor also stated that the University Health Centre has been upgraded with additional doctors and nurses to provide round-the-clock medical services for both the Teach For Nigeria Fellows and the wider university community.

He explained that the university's stable academic calendar would further support the success of the fellowship programme, noting that the 2025/2026 academic session will end on 23 July 2026, after which students and most academic staff will proceed on vacation, creating a more conducive environment for programme activities.

Expressing confidence in the success of the initiative, Professor Kehinde assured the delegation that FUNAAB is fully prepared to address any challenges promptly and remains committed to ensuring a rewarding and memorable experience for all Teach For Nigeria Fellows.
