Ekiti Varsity Encourages Research Excellence to Tackle Societal Challenges

The Vice-Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science, and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), Professor Olufemi Adeoluwa, has urged academics at the institution to engage in cutting-edge research to address prevalent challenges in society. This call was made during a one-day colloquium on Institution-based research organized by the university's Centre for Research and Development (CERAD).
Professor Adeoluwa, represented by the Provost, Faculty of Education, Professor Adekunle Adegun, emphasized the significance of research in universities, hailing it as a cardinal principle. He commended Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) beneficiaries for their dedication to advancing knowledge.
The event showcased outcomes from research grants provided by TETFund, with beneficiaries presenting findings and proposing solutions to identified problems. Over N60 million was disbursed to 41 beneficiaries, underscoring the commitment to promoting research for societal improvement.
Professor Bankole Faloye, the acting director of CERAD, expressed gratitude to TETFund for its financial support, assuring continued encouragement and backing for research initiatives contributing to societal betterment. He highlighted that recommendations from the academic work would be shared with the government and relevant stakeholders for necessary action.

In a communique issued at the conclusion of the colloquium, participants called on educational authorities and stakeholders to prioritize entrepreneurial education as a means of reducing unemployment. The communique also addressed various aspects, including urging investment in bee farming, promotion of transparency by micro-credit institutions, legal actions against perpetrators of financial fraud, and the need for transitional justice for victims of armed banditry.
