UNIMAID Geology Department Concludes Intensive Three-Day Capacity Building Workshop for Staff

The University of Maiduguri Department of Geology has organised a Three-day in-house capacity building workshop for its staff to enhance knowledge and practical competency in sedimentogy and paliantology laboratory.

The workshop took place at the conference hall of the department of Geology, Faculty of Physical Science on Monday the 12th January, 2026.

The workshop was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor University of Maiduguri Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Central Administration Professor Baba Gana Bako. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor praised the enitre Faculty and the Department in particular for making the management proud. He then assured the Department of his supporting to such programmes at any given time..

The resource persons at the workshop were Dr.Fatimoh Dupe Adams, Mr.Alhamdu kura Landee, Mal.DaisY.Saleh and Dr.Yakubu Mohammad. Others are Mal.Madu Y.Usman and Mal.Bashir Ibrahim, who also presented papers respectively. The presentations provided clear knowledge on safety precautions in laboratory, sedimentology & paleontology and other related courses of the Department. Additionally, some practicals were demonstrated in laboratory.

In his closing remarks the Head of Department, stressed the need for the participants to make use of the knowledge acquired during the workshop. He also called on the participants to emulate the good gesture of the resource persons.

The Head of Department later presented certificates to the participants on behalf of the University management and advised the participants to make use of the knowledge they gained at the workshop.
