Federal University of Education VC Inspects Repaired SRC Vehicle; Reaffirms Student-Centric Governance
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of students, calling the Students' Representive Council to meet the expectations of their members.
He gave this assurance while addressing members of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) led by the Dean of the Students’ Affairs Division, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkadir to present their repaired official vehicle.
Presenting the vehicle to the Vice-Chancellor, Mal. Abdullahi explained that the vehicle plays important role in facilitating the movement of student leaders within and outside the University, thereby ensuring the smooth coordination of their official activities.
The President of the Students’ Representative Council, Comrade Yakubu Ibrahim, showed both the interior and exterior repaired vehicle to the Vice-Chancellor, while expressing gratitude to Prof. Bunkure for his continued support and sustained efforts toward the students’ welfare.
Prof. Bunkure inspected the vehicle and commended both the Dean and the SRC President for prudently utilizing funds to repair it. He urged the SRC leadership to remain focused on meeting the expectations of the student body, particularly in matters relating to their wellbeing and general welfare.
“I am very happy to be associated with many good people of the University, especially the students,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
“Without you, the students, we would not be here. That is why we are committed to your welfare,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor further advised the student leaders to maintain exemplary character, take their studies seriously, and see leadership as both a responsibility and a trust.
He warned against any form of discrimination among students and encouraged unity, fairness, and inclusiveness in student representation.
Prof. Bunkure expressing concern over the activities of some unregistered and unrecognized unions operating illegally within the University, he called on the Dean of Students’ Affairs and the SRC to remain vigilant over all clubs and societies, particularly in monitoring and preventing the activities of cult groups and unauthorized unions.
“To the Dean, the SRC, and all students, be informed that we are operating a zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline, especially regarding unions that are not legally registered or recognized by the University,” he emphasized.
Reiterating his broader commitment to students’ welfare, the Vice-Chancellor recalled his recent visit to the University’s water works facility and pledged to ensure a steady and adequate water supply across the campus.
He finally reaffirmed his open-door policy, assuring students of his administration’s readiness to listen to their concerns and work collaboratively toward the continued progress of the University.
