Taraba State University Hosts High-Level Summit on Climate Change and Energy Solutions

The Taraba State University, Jalingo TSUJ under the astute leadership of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, convened a significant gathering of esteemed guests and government officials to address pressing issues surrounding climate change and energy solutions.

Among the distinguished attendees were Ambassador Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, a renowned global economist and former Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, along with several top government officials including Prof. Nicholas Oliver Namesan, Commissioner of Agriculture, and Hon. Peter George, Commissioner for Rural and Urban Development.

During the event, Prof. Oruonye E.D. highlighted the grave impacts of climate change experienced within Taraba State, ranging from devastating floods to rampant wildfires and deforestation. Despite these challenges, he commended the state government for its proactive stance on climate change adaptation and mitigation while stressing the need for further action.

Ambassador Bogolo Joy Kenewendo led an engaging session on the critical importance of addressing energy and climate change issues across both rural and urban areas. Emphasizing the significance of sustainable and renewable energy sources, the discussions underscored the role of government policies and community engagement in fostering energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sunday Paul Bako announced a significant milestone in the university's commitment to environmental research. He revealed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish an institution dedicated to tree crop research. This initiative aims to explore indigenous species, particularly the inti-rirago species found in Kurmi with vast forests. The objective is to enhance biodiversity, combat deforestation.
