Students from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) showcased remarkable achievements at the 7th Nigeria International Energy Summit (#NIES2024), held in Abuja from February 26th to March 1st, 2024.

Under the leadership of Al-Amin Saheed Babatunde, a final year student of Applied Geology and founder of the Nigeria Geosciences and Engineering Students' Community (N-GESC), Team FUTA comprised 21 students from diverse disciplines within the Geosciences and Engineering fields.

The team's exceptional performance was evident as they secured multiple prizes at the booths of industry giants such as Shell, ExxonMobil, and NNPC, with the invaluable support of FUTA alumni, notably Mr. Toyin Afolabi, CEO of the Paintings and Coating Manufacturer Association of Nigeria.

Additionally, Team FUTA clinched internship opportunities with a prominent energy company, further highlighting their prowess in the energy sector. Their success extended to the African Rave and Award Night, where they garnered a monetary prize, a 40-inch smart television, and multiple cash prizes, along with accolades at the LNG Booth.

Team FUTA's prominence at the summit escalated through strategic networking, including interactions with key dignitaries such as Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo and Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, Ministers of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) and (Oil) respectively, as well as H.E. Haitham Al-Ghais, OPEC Secretary General, and Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari, CEO of NNPC Limited.
