Technology and Infrastructure: The Pillars of NOUN’s Global Transformation, Says Vice-Chancellor
The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, has attributed the institution’s rapid evolution into a premier center for distance learning to a strategic and sustained investment in technology, cutting-edge research, and robust infrastructure.
Delivering his address, titled “From Learning to Leadership: Reimagining Education for a Transforming World,” at the university’s 15th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, April 18, 2026, Prof. Uduma highlighted the pivotal role of digital innovation in fulfilling the university's mandate.
Speaking at the university’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja—with simultaneous broadcasts across study centres nationwide—the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that NOUN’s growth is inextricably linked to its technological capabilities.
“NOUN has continued to invest strategically in technology as the backbone of its Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mandate,” Prof. Uduma stated. He specifically lauded the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for its consistent support, which has enabled the university to achieve significant milestones in developing a world-class digital infrastructure.

Addressing the thousands of graduates, Prof. Uduma described the convocation as a "transfer of responsibility," urging them to transition from students to societal leaders.
“You are not merely leaving the university—you are being sent,” he remarked. “The child who is sent on an errand does not walk with empty hands. You carry intellectual capital, discipline, and values. Let your knowledge become service.”
In a notable highlight of the institution's commitment to inclusive education, 56 inmates from various correctional facilities across Nigeria were among those who earned degrees through the university’s specialized correctional education programme.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed that the university would remain committed to expanding access to quality higher education, ensuring that NOUN remains at the forefront of the digital revolution in the Nigerian University System.
