UI Advancing in Digitisation of Student Records, Says Vice-Chancellor
The University of Ibadan (UI) is making notable progress in digitising student records, transcript archives, and key documentation, with support from an alumnus.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has affirmed that the institution is making significant strides in the digitisation of student records, transcript archives, and other essential documentation. This initiative is being propelled with the support of an alumnus, ensuring the preservation of institutional records for future generations.
Professor Adebowale made this disclosure while receiving representatives of Family Search International (FSI) on a courtesy visit to the university. He emphasized UI's legacy of excellence and hard work, which has earned the institution global recognition. According to him, the university remains committed to maintaining its records in perpetuity and welcomes collaborations that support this goal.
He reiterated that UI is open to partnerships that enhance the safekeeping of its records and intellectual property, recognizing the importance of technological advancements in achieving this.
Speaking on behalf of Family Search International, the National Director and leader of the visiting delegation, Engr. Kelechi Ohabughiro, expressed appreciation to the university management for its interest in the organization's work. He described Family Search International as a global leader in the digital preservation of historical documents.
Engr. Ohabughiro highlighted that Family Search Services are provided at no cost and expressed the organization's desire to explore opportunities for collaboration with UI. He further noted that Family Search International is a non-commercial, non-governmental entity that has collaborated with over 10,000 archives, churches, schools, and other record custodians in more than 150 countries.
The potential partnership between UI and Family Search International is expected to further bolster the university’s digitisation efforts, ensuring the long-term preservation and accessibility of vital institutional records.
