UI Poised to Launch New Academic Programmes as NUC Conducts Resource Verification Visit
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), University of Ibadan, Professor Peter Olapegba, has reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to commence new academic programmes, stating that the University has provided all necessary human and material resources to ensure their successful takeoff.

Professor Olapegba, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, mni, FAS, disclosed this while receiving officials of the National Universities Commission (NUC) on a resource verification visit to the University. He acknowledged that, despite certain limitations, the institution has made deliberate efforts within available means to maintain a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
He further assured that the University of Ibadan possesses both the facilities and qualified personnel needed for the smooth commencement of the new programmes, once approval is granted by the NUC. He emphasized the University’s unwavering commitment to upholding its long-standing reputation for academic excellence and transparency.

Speaking on behalf of the NUC accreditation teams, Professor P. B. Zirra, the lead verifier for the Software Engineering and Information Technology programmes, commended the University for its hospitality and thorough preparation. He explained that the purpose of the verification exercise was to assess the authenticity of the facilities and resources presented by the institution, adding that the findings would inform the Commission’s final recommendations.
The programmes under review include Pharmacology in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Studies, as well as Data Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, and Information Technology in the newly established Faculty of Computing.
Other members of the NUC team include Sympathy Ngalato (Software Engineering and Information Technology), Prof. Ighodaro Igbe and Tunrayo J. O. Laoso (Pharmacology), and Prof. J. K. Alhassan, Mr. Dominic O. Chukwuma, and Mrs. Grace Chukwuma (Cybersecurity and Data Science).
The visit marks another key step in the University’s strategic expansion drive, aimed at aligning academic offerings with emerging global and technological trends.
