The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, has praised the dedication and sacrifices of academics who have devoted their lives to advancing education and serving humanity, describing their work as a cornerstone of national development.

UI Vice-Chancellor Commends Academics for Lifelong Sacrifices in Service to Humanity

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, has praised the dedication and sacrifices of academics who have devoted their lives to advancing education and serving humanity, describing their work as a cornerstone of national development.

Professor Adebowale made the remarks while receiving a delegation from the Faculty of Science during a courtesy visit to present Professor A. B. Odaibo, a former Dean of the Faculty, who is set to retire after 41 years of distinguished service to the University. The delegation was led by the Dean, Professor Ibrahim Adebayo Oladosu.

The Vice-Chancellor commended Professor Odaibo for his decades of loyalty, resilience, and selfless service, noting that he belonged to a generation of scholars who joined the university system when academic conditions were far from attractive yet remained steadfast in their commitment to teaching, research, and mentoring. He described such dedication as true service to humanity and an example for future generations.

Professor Adebowale reaffirmed the University’s commitment to honouring retiring scholars who have made lasting contributions to the growth and reputation of the institution. He lauded Professor Odaibo’s exemplary career and his impact as a mentor, scholar, and leader, whose legacy would continue to inspire both colleagues and students.

Earlier, Professor Oladosu explained that the visit was to formally present and celebrate Professor Odaibo, who has rendered outstanding service to the Faculty of Science and the Department of Zoology. He also emphasized the importance of institutional recognition for academics who have spent decades shaping the university’s legacy through teaching and scholarship.

Also present during the visit were the Head of the Department of Zoology, Professor Aina Adeogun; the honoree, Professor A. B. Odaibo, accompanied by his wife, Professor Georgina N. Odaibo; and the Faculty Officer, Mr. M. A. Raji.
