UNIABUJA Hosts Launch of CNG-SPROUT Project

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (Pi-CNGI) has launched its CNG Special Palliative Relief for Universities Transportation (SPROUT) project at UniAbuja.

The project provides five 18-seater buses, ten tricycles, and 1,200 CNG conversion kits to the university.

A CNG station built on campus was commissioned during the event. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the initiative as a timely response to Nigeria's energy transition and economic realities.

UniAbuja's Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patricia Manko Lar, expressed commitment to sustaining the projects on campus, citing access to cheaper energy alternatives like CNG. The project aims to promote cleaner energy use and reduce transportation costs for students and staff.
