UniAbuja Student Teams Receive Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation After Global Food Innovation Success

Two student teams of the University of Abuja that distinguished themselves at the 2025 Wageningen University & Research Food Systems Innovation Challenge have been formally presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi.

UniAbuja Student Teams Receive Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation After Global Food Innovation Success

Two student teams of the University of Abuja that distinguished themselves at the 2025 Wageningen University & Research Food Systems Innovation Challenge have been formally presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi.

The teams, Team Nature Pro and Team Millet Maven, represented the University at the global competition held in Wageningen, the Netherlands. The event brought together 24 student teams from 13 universities across 12 countries and four continents. The teams were mentored by Professor Grace Oyiza Ogunlade-Anibasa and Dr. Muideen Tella Liadi.

Receiving the students, Professor Fawehinmi commended them for projecting the University positively on the international stage and praised their innovation and creativity in addressing challenges in food systems, environmental sustainability, and public health. He encouraged the teams to sustain the momentum and assured them of the University’s continued support.

The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Country Coordinator of the Food Systems Innovation Challenge, Professor Akeem Oyerinde, who led the teams to the Vice-Chancellor’s office, announced that Team Millet Maven has been selected to represent the University of Abuja and Nigeria at the World Food Forum Flagship Event in Rome, Italy, scheduled for October 2026.
