UNICAL Vice Chancellor Receives Comprehensive Report on Dean's Suspension Investigation
Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, has officially received the report of the Investigation Panel tasked with examining allegations of impropriety against the suspended Dean of Law, Prof. Cyril Ndifon.
During a concise presentation ceremony held in her office, the Vice Chancellor expressed her appreciation for the Panel's dedication and diligence in producing a comprehensive and impartial report within a short timeframe. Although the University's management had not yet reviewed the report, Prof. Obi expressed confidence that it would prove valuable to the institution, offering a means to bring closure to the matter and allowing the University to move forward.
Prof. Obi also pledged to present the report, exactly as delivered by the Panel with "nothing added, nothing removed," to the Ministers of Education and Women Affairs, as well as the Executive Secretary of the NUC.
Addressing the various public opinions surrounding the matter, the Vice Chancellor asserted that the Panel's report would serve as the official voice of the University. She also praised the panel members, emphasizing that they were carefully selected based on their offices, positions, and integrity, ensuring their independence and credibility.
In her words, Prof. Obi stated, "I sought individuals who cannot be swayed, and on behalf of University Management, I extend my gratitude to the Chairman for agreeing to lead this panel. I also want to express my appreciation to every member of the Panel. To elevate the University, we require individuals, both men and women, with unwavering credibility."
Prof. Obi noted that having an external observer for university investigations was unusual but necessary due to the sensitive nature of the allegations and the individuals involved.
The Chairman of the Panel, Prof. Dorothy Oluwagbemi Jacob, presented the report, emphasizing that the Panel conducted a thorough, fact-based investigation without relying on hearsay. They engaged all stakeholders and ensured every finding had verifiable evidence. Prof. Jacob commended the Panel members for their cooperation, time commitment, and professionalism, attributing the report's quality to their collaborative efforts.
