The Students’ Union Government (SUG) Senate of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has suspended its Senate President, Dist. Senator Benjamin, following claims of financial mismanagement, corruption, and gross misconduct.

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) Senate of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has suspended its Senate President, Dist. Senator Benjamin, following claims of financial mismanagement, corruption, and gross misconduct.

A resolution passed by a two-thirds majority of the 16th Assembly Senate cited the alleged misuse of over ₦400,000 in Senate funds, collusion with members of the previous assembly, and the execution of unauthorized projects without approval.

The Senate has also called for an independent investigation into all financial transactions during Senator Benjamin’s tenure. It further stipulated that he will not be cleared for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) until he fully accounts for the disputed funds.

In the wake of the suspension, Deputy Senate President Dist. Senator Ofem Brendan has assumed the role of Acting Senate President.

The Senate emphasized its dedication to transparency, accountability, and good governance in the administration of the Students’ Union Government.
