UNIDEL Partners NYCN to Combat Social Vices and Promote Digital Literacy

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor, Professor Stella Chiemeke, has urged the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to intensify its efforts in addressing social vices among young people.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor, Professor Stella Chiemeke, has urged the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to intensify its efforts in addressing social vices among young people.

Professor Chiemeke made this call on Thursday, August 29, 2024, when the Executive Council members of NYCN, Ika South Chapter, paid her a courtesy visit.

"The rate of drug abuse, wearing of dreaded hair by males, and other social vices are on the increase, and we need to tackle them head-on. We need to engage our young people meaningfully, and that's why we're willing to partner with NYCN," Professor Chiemeke said.

She assured the NYCN that the University of Delta is willing to collaborate with the organization by providing lecturers from the Computer Science Department to train young people in digital forensic.

Earlier, the Chairman of NYCN, Ika South Chapter, Comrade Izegede Christian, commended the Vice Chancellor and Management Team for their contributions to the institution's rapid growth.

"We're here to commend you for your efforts in making UNIDEL a great institution. We're also here to inform you about our upcoming program, Digital Pathway for Community Development, which aims to discuss and share ideas on improving the economy and security through digital means," Comrade Izegede said.

Comrade Izegede also expressed the organization's willingness to partner with the University of Delta for the benefit of young people, particularly UNIDEL students.

"We believe that by working together, we can make a positive impact on our young people and the society at large," Comrade Izegede added.

The NYCN members who accompanied Comrade Christian Izegede included Eboka Ndidi, Oseh Mercy, Esemele Friday, Odije Victor, and Elue Chizim. Others present were Gladys Onyeachohem, Okonta Christian, Eruogi Solomon, and Okunbor Uyi.

Also in attendance were the Registrar, Barrister Richmond Omagbemi, the Bursar, Mr. Sunny Ikeogwu, and the University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs) Vera Okonoko.
