UNIJOS VC Urges NASS to Address Electricity Disconnection Crisis

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, (UNIJOS) Prof. Tanko Ishaya, has urgently called for intervention from the House of Representatives Committee on University Education concerning the disconnection of the university from public electricity. This drastic measure, taken by the Jos Electricity Distribution Plc, has plunged the university into darkness for over a month.

During an oversight visit by the committee, led by Chairman Abubakar Hassan Fulata, Prof. Ishaya explained that the university's electricity bill had skyrocketed from between ₦20 million and ₦25 million per month to approximately ₦79 million to ₦80 million. This surge followed the reclassification of the university’s electricity consumption, which placed it in Band A.
