UNILAG and LASU have implemented a series of robust security measures to ensure the safety of athletes, officials, and participants during the 11th Federation of African Universities’ Sport (FASU) Games, scheduled to take place from September 20 to 29, 2024.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Lagos State University (LASU) have implemented a series of robust security measures to ensure the safety of athletes, officials, and participants during the 11th Federation of African Universities’ Sport (FASU) Games, scheduled to take place from September 20 to 29, 2024. The games, which will attract participants from nearly 100 universities across Africa, will be held at both UNILAG and LASU campuses.
A comprehensive security team has been deployed for the event, comprising personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Security (DSS), Anti-terrorism Bomb Disposal Unit, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Fire Service, Marine Police, and university security teams, including Man’O’War and Legionnaires. These teams will collaborate to maintain order and provide safety across all venues and accommodations.
To ensure smooth financial transactions, athletes and officials will have access to currency exchange services through a partnership with Lotus Bank, which will provide a currency exchange stand at the Sports Centre. POS machines will also be available for both local and international debit card transactions.
Accredited participants will be provided with Access Cards for entry into designated accommodations and event venues. It is mandatory for all participants to display their identification tags at all times.
For added convenience, UNILAG student volunteers will assist athletes and officials with shopping and navigating outside the campus. These volunteers will be stationed at various accommodation halls and sporting venues.
Emergency contacts and support services have also been set up. In case of any emergencies, participants are encouraged to contact the emergency numbers provided. Additionally, a UNILAG Panic Alarm App has been introduced, allowing users to quickly alert authorities in emergencies through features such as a panic button, GPS tracking, and anonymous reporting.
Participants are advised to remain vigilant, adhere to the safety protocols, and report any suspicious activity to the security personnel. The FASU Games will feature a wide range of sports, and these measures are designed to ensure a safe and secure environment for all involved.
