Students of Chinese Studies at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) had a unique opportunity to engage with global tech giant Xiaomi Corporation during the Campus Connect event held on Friday, September 20, 2024. The event, hosted at the Arts Block of UNILAG’s main campus in Akoka, was designed to expose students to opportunities within the Chinese business landscape, specifically in design and manufacturing.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Mudashir Ilupeju, praised the faculty for its continuous efforts to broaden the academic and professional horizons of students. He urged students to seize these opportunities to strategically position themselves for future success.

The Deputy Director of the Confucius Institute, Dr. Adetoro Banwo, highlighted that the Xiaomi Campus Connect initiative was created to link students studying Chinese language and culture with brands and industries from China. This connection is expected to help students better understand the real-world applications of their studies and explore career opportunities in the global Chinese industry.

One of the key moments of the event was a presentation by Camellia Ran, the Head of Marketing at Xiaomi Corporation, who introduced the students to the company’s operations, product lines, and potential career paths within Xiaomi. She emphasized the corporation’s role as a leading designer and manufacturer of consumer electronics, home appliances, automobiles, and household hardware, with its headquarters in Beijing.

The Xiaomi Campus Connect event is part of ongoing efforts to equip students with both academic and industry knowledge, preparing them for strategic roles in the ever-evolving global market.
